Doing All Things – Philippians 4

Since it is true that we “can do all things through him who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13), the opposite must also be true.  We can do nothing without God Who strengthens us.  We might be able to do a little something, but nothing significant without the Lord. Jesus said without Him, we can do nothing at all (John 15:5), and “nothing” is not a little something.

Fear Not – Isaiah 41

Fear is the enemy of faith.  When we are fearful, we are usually not faithful, so when fear outranks faith, we cannot do much of anything, so the Lord reminds us to “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).  If God strengthens us, we need not fear or be dismayed about anything.  Let faith slay the dragon of fear as God strengthens you.

The Lord’s Battle – Ephesians 6

I am weak apart from Christ but only strong in Christ.   The Apostle Paul told the church at Ephesus to “be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might” (Ephesians 6:10).  When Judah was threatened by superior forces, King Hezekiah reminded the people that “With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God, to help us and to fight our battles” (2 Chronicles 32:8).  It is the Lord’s battle, not ours…if it were ours, we’d surely lose.

Waiting on the Lord – Isaiah 40

Waiting may be one of the hardest things we do as humans.  Our impulse is to do something quick and not wait. I’ve heard that Satan is always in a hurry but God never is, so it is true that “they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

The Lord is Your Strength – Exodus 15

If we depended upon our own strength, none of us would make it very far in this life.  We have a little strength, but for those of us who trust in God, we can say, “The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him” (Exodus 15:2).  If the Lord is your source of strength, you are strong indeed.

Enduring Life

If we “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually” (1 Chronicles 16:11), then we’ll be able to endure this life.  He is our strength, our refuge, and it is His battle not ours.  Let’s shrink our fear with faith in God, for the arm of the flesh cannot save us. It takes the strong arm of the Lord to deliver us, and He will.
