There’s already enough stress and anxiety in the world, and we certainly don’t need anymore, so here are 12 Bible verses for those suffering from anxiety and stress that might help us find our rest in Christ.
Here are 5 Great Stories about Anxiety and Stress
Money Troubles (Hebrews 13)
I heard one man say that money talks…but it mostly says, “Bye Bye,” and who hasn’t had money troubles? I have and you probably have too, but a great promise to relieve our anxiety and stress is Hebrews 13:5-6 which is a promise of God. The Lord says, “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Since He promises to never leave us or forsake us, we can know that He covers everything in our life…even our finances.
He Goes With You (Joshua 1)
It may help to know that amidst our anxiety and stress in life, the Lord promises us, just as He promised Joshua, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9). That’s not a suggestion, but a command. Did you catch that? He commands us to be strong and courageous, and there’s no room for anxiety and stress in that command.
No Anxiety (Philippians 4)
If we truly believe God’s Word, and I hope we do, we should “not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7). Pray about everything and anything that causes you stress and anxiety. No matter how huge the problem is, our God is bigger still.
Casting Anxieties (1 Peter 5)
The cares of this world are too heavy for us to carry alone. We need a little help…maybe a lot of help, but the way to unload every burden from your mind is to cast “all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). This doesn’t happen automatically…we must choose to pick up these heavy loads and cast them all onto the Lord. He can handle what we cannot.
Don’t let your pride get in the way when you need help. That includes asking for help from others, but also from God, and here’s how you do that when asking the Lord for help: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:6-7). If we are too proud to ask for help, He can’t help us, so humble yourself just as I have had to, and He will help. That’s “because he cares for you.”
Give it to the Lord
In this life, it’s very easy to get anxious and start worrying about things, especially things that we have no control over. Take it to the Lord when anxiety and stress overwhelm you. There’s no need to carry that entire burden alone; not with Jesus ready to take it upon Himself (Matthew 11:28-30).
I hope these 12 Bible verses for those suffering from anxiety and stress will help you and others live a more stress-less life. Please share these with someone who might be having their own anxieties and stress.
