5 Stories From The Bible About Being Beautiful

Here are 5 stories from the Bible about being beautiful.

The Hidden Person

As they say, “All that glitters is not gold,” and that’s true, but what is truly important to God is not what glitters, but what’s in the heart.  The Apostle Peter said, “Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious” (1 Peter 3:3-4).  A humble, gentle, quiet spirit is very attractive to me, and makes someone very approachable.

Altogether Beautiful

Yes, we are to focus on the inward beauty or character of a person, but not to the total exclusion of the outward appearances.  For example, the reason I came to my wife was because I was attracted to her, and even today I can say, “You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you” (Song of Solomon 4:7).  She is inwardly and outwardly beautiful, so I am doubly blessed.

Fearing the Lord

Time catches up with us all, and time is a cruel taskmaster too, grinding away at us, as it were, day by day and year by year.   Things not only catch up with me…they pass me by, so it is best to know that “Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised” (Proverbs 31:30).  One thing will last (fear of the Lord); the other will not. One is eternal; the other is temporal.

Looks on the Heart

When Israel was choosing a king, most would never have picked David….a teenage sheep herder…the runt of his litter, small and ruddy, “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7).  God chose best, as King David would be Israel’s greatest king (till Christ comes!) and a man after God’s own heart.

Wonderfully Made

No matter what you and I look like, we must remember that God is the Potter and we are the clay, so we must say to the Potter, “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well” (Psalm 139:14).  God knew best and knew what He was doing when He made us.  Besides, this life is fleeting, and the glorified bodies in the coming kingdom will overshadow our bodies today.

Beauty can be both a blessing and a curse, because people will treat you for how you look and not treat you for how you are as a person, so some relationships will be shallow ones, but inward beauty is the greatest beauty of all, and that’s what is most pleasing to God.
