5 Stories From The Bible To Read From After A Job Loss

Here are 5 stories from the Bible to read after a job loss.

Plans for You

If you’ve lost your job, God’s got something different for you.  I cannot promise it will be better, but it may be, but God still can say to you that “I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). The audience of Jeremiah may have been Judah who was being held in captivity, but surely God has plans for you for a future, and you can have hope in that because it’s for your “welfare and not for evil.”

Having Peace

When the disciples understood that Jesus was going away, they were deeply troubled.  Nothing would be the same without Jesus there, and they were right, but Jesus says to them, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Jesus didn’t say “if you will have tribulation” but “you will have tribulation.”  Even so, “take heart” He has “overcome the world.”

The Good, Bad, and the Ugly

Nowhere in God’s Word are we promised smooth sailing in this life.  More often we’re told that the way is difficult, the path is narrow, and we must make every effort in this life, however, take all the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and still know “that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

Make a Way

God is the God of the impossible.  When there is no way, He can make a way.  When it looks hopeless, we can look to Him in hope, and “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:18-19).  God has a way of making away, even if we can’t seem to make it ourselves.

Seek First

I truly believe Jesus gives us an ironclad promise that if we seek Him and His righteousness, He will provide for us.   He tells us to “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). All “these things” were the necessities of life that most people worry about…people like you and me, but seeking the King of the kingdom and His righteousness is a sure way of making sure all our “things” are taken care of.
