5 Stories From The Bible To Read About Wealth

Here are 5 stories from the Bible to read about money or wealth.

A Root of Evil

The Bible does not teach that money is evil or the root of all evil. Money has been used for many great charities, but money has no morality to it.  It is an inanimate object, but it is the love of money that is at the root of the problem, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs” (1 Timothy 6:10). When they begin to have much money…the money begins to have them.

Contentment

If you’re contented in life, you’re not depending on the things of this life to keep you happy.  Scripture ties contentment and money into one another, because for most of us, they are closely connected, but we’re told, “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).  He is never leaving or forsaking us.  That should give you contentment.  Money cannot bring contentment. Only God can.

Two Master’s

I know one man who works three part time jobs, and sometimes he has conflicts with his work schedules. He’s trying to serve “three masters,” but “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money” (Matthew 6:24).  You are either for Christ or against Him; you either support His commission (Matthew 28:18-20) or do not. What we do with what we have says a lot about us.

Treasures in Heaven

If we’re busy laying up treasures on earth, we’re missing the eternal treasures of heaven.  Jesus said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19-21).  There is a long, sensitive nerve from our hearts to our wallets…so where is your treasure at…on earth or in heaven?

His Riches

The Apostle Paul depended on few people to supply him with the means to preach the gospel. He was the original “bi-vocational” evangelist.  He was a tent maker and paid his own way, but the Philippians were generous in their giving for the gospel’s sake, so he told them that “my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
