As Christians we go through times when we fell like even God has abandoned us. We continue to pray but feel as though we are not being heard or that he has turned away from us.

In life when everyone else abandons you, remember God will NEVER even if it might feel as if He has! Continue to pray and put your trust in him, He will help you and lead you.

5 Stories From The Bible About Abandonment

Here are 5 stories from the Bible that relate to abandonment.

If All Others Abandon You

Many around the world have had their employers, friends, and even their family abandon them for their faith in Jesus Christ, and so did the psalmist, as he wrote, “For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in” (Psalm 27:10).  All others may forsake you but those who trust in God will not ever be abandoned by the Lord our God.  He is faithful to those who have faith in Him.

God Never Forsakes You

Even if everyone else you know forsakes you because you have trusted in Christ, God promises that if you “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).  The Greek wording of this verse is very interesting, as it really says, “Never no, will I never leave you, no never will I forsake you,” so three times in this one verse God says “No, I will never forsake you” and that means forever…that is, if you “Keep your life free from love of money.”

Never be Ashamed

If we are ashamed of Christ before others, He will be ashamed of us on Judgment Day, but we need never be ashamed by having faith in Christ because the Scripture says that “none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous” (Psalm 25:3).  We are waiting on Him now and at His appearing, there will be no more shame.

Engraved by God

Can you even imagine a mother forgetting her own child, especially at the nursing stage?  Now think about your relationship with God.  Isaiah, in writing about Israel’s relationship with God, asked, “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me” (Isaiah 49:15-16). God will not forget you since you’ve been engraved in the palm of His hand, so to speak.  We can take heart in that.

God Goes With You

After the death of Moses, God wanted to encourage Joshua in his new position of leadership, so God told him, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).  Notice that this isn’t a suggestion but a command to not be frightened or dismayed and to be strong and courageous.  Why?  The main reason is “God is with you wherever you go.”

God does not save us only to abandon us.  The psalmist knew that God has promised him that “you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption” (Psalm 16:10).  Job could also say that God “has redeemed my soul from going down into the pit, and my life shall look upon the light” (Job 33:28).
