Devotional: 5 Reasons Why You Can Trust in God’s Unchanging Nature

Let’s face it. People change. When situations and circumstances come our way, we can’t help but be changed. We can try to stick to our values, but if often takes sustained challenges for us to really change based on our circumstances. Unfortunately, not all these changes are positive.

The good news is that there is one force in this universe. One person that you can trust won’t change. God has never and will never change. You can lay your trust in that truth and you can be strengthened by that fact.

Here are five reasons why you can trust in God’s unchanging nature:

It doesn’t change with the season

God is not a fair-weather friend. If he is walking with you because you have accepted him in your life, not only will He walk with you when times are great, you’re going through the peaks of your life, and you’re seeing beautiful vistas; he’ll also walk with you when you’re going through the valleys and you’re surrounded by wolves. That’s how loyal he is.

He doesn’t change when you change

If you read the Bible, you’ll notice that God is always there. Always like a persistent friend. Regardless of how many times you reject Him or you lock him out of the door, He continues to knock. God is love, and love persists. Love is patient, and love withstands the test of time.

He doesn’t change when others view you differently

It’s very easy to lose friends once their view of you changes or for you to stop looking at yourself a certain way because other people look at you differently.

This is not true with God. Even if other people have rejected you or you become an outcast, he will still be your friend. It’s your choice to claim that friendship and gain peace from that unchanging nature of God.

He doesn’t change with your health

Human beings are creatures of comfort and convenience. When times are great, we’re feeling good. In many cases, our attitudes are completely different though when we are on our sick bed.

God isn’t like that. What you see is what you get with the Lord. He’s the same now when you’re healthy as he is when you are feeling sick.

He doesn’t change with popular opinion

There are many levels to reality and one particular level is social reality. A reality is often shaped by popular opinion and conventional wisdom. However, popular opinion goes in and out of fashion.

God isn’t like that. He doesn’t change with popular opinion. In fact, God was there when people rejected Jesus Christ, and God is still here. He never changes, and you can lay claim to this power because even if your values are no longer popular or no longer acceptable to other people, you can rest assured that God will still accept you.

Conclusion

As I’ve mentioned earlier, there is such a thing as social reality. We live in a historical moment. People’s philosophies and their views of the world change all the time. In many cases, it changes because of power and money.

God is the same yesterday as he is today and as he will be in the future. He is unchanging and you can draw strength and power from the fact that what is true with him in the past will remain true today as it will remain true far into the future. Put your trust and faith in the unchanging truth. That is exactly what happens when you trust in God.
