His Light
The Apostle John writes that someday, at the consummation of the Kingdom of God on earth, there’ll be no more need for the sun or the moot because God Himself, Who is said to be light, will be the light that illuminates the entire earth. Does that mean the sun will stop shinning as well as the moon? I think it’s more that the brilliance of the glory of God will so overshadow the sun, that you won’t even notice it next to the Light of the world, Who we know is Jesus Christ, and “night will be no more” (John 8:12).
His Promise
What God promises, God delivers, and the promise of His kingdom includes the end of human suffering, pain, sorrow, tears, and even death. That’s a promise that cannot be broken because God is bound by His own word. If we live today with the end in mind, we can mind the things of today much better.
His Kingdom
Can you imagine the day we enter the kingdom of heaven or if we pass away before Christ returns, being in the presence of the Lord? I can’t even grasp that, it’s just so amazing. When the kingdoms of this earth become the kingdoms of God, Christ will need rulers, kings, and priests, and that’s what some will do (Rev 1:6; 5:16).
His Earth
When the new heavens and the new earth come, it’s not going to be the earth that has chemical pollutants, radioactive waste, famine, disease, war, and other such sorrows. The King of kings will rule the earth and there will be no more wars, and no need for the sun or moon; not with the Light of the world sitting on His throne, bringing light into every corner of the world.
Conclusion
The sun will pale in comparison and the moon will be embarrassed to be a source of light because the Light that overcame the darkness will then shine brighter than the sun. There’ll be no more nightlights, no more lampstands, no more headlights, no more streetlights, because “they will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever” (Rev 22:5).
