– Song of Solomon 2:4
The Cross
It doesn’t take a Bible scholar or theologian to figure out the gospel. The main things are the plain things, and even a child can understand how they can be saved, but the clearest explanation of the love of God is displayed on the cross (John 3:16), and as Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).
Daily Bread
Jesus told us to pray for our daily bread, but surely Jesus was not just speaking about physical bread. He told Satan, “Man does not live by bread alone” (Matt 4:4). Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 8:3 which says almost the exactly same thing, but it was intended to humble them. Hunger has a way of doing that, but the Bread of Life satisfies forever. Abide in that Word and that Word will abide in you (John 15:1-5).
Physical Bread
We know that God sustained ancient Israel by sending them daily manna (which means “what is it?”). Only on the Sabbath did God not send the manna, but they were allowed to gather enough on Friday to carry them through the Sabbath, so by Jesus using the phrase, “Bread of Life” (John 6:35), the Jews clearly understood what He was referring to about Himself, but in the physical realm, it’s fine to pray for our daily bread, or the necessities of life…it’s only bad when we become anxious about it. Jesus said, “do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear” (Matt 6:31), but rather “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matt 6:33), and “these things” surely include your bread for the day.
His Hands
If I were to pick one of my favorite two Bible verses, it might be John 10:27-29 where Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” Is there any safer place to be than in the hands of Jesus and the Father?
Conclusion
Whoever has repented and believed will be saved, and it’s easy to prove God’s love for us, dying even while His enemy (Rom 5:10), but look at the cross, read His Word, trust His provision, and rest in Jesus and your Father’s hand.
