3 Truths About Jesus

“I am the way and the truth and the life.”

– John 14:6

I AM the Way

Jesus is the one and only way to enter the kingdom of heaven, as Acts 4:12 says, “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” I don’t care if that’s politically correct or not because it is correct, and that’s all that matters. It’s not amazing that there’s only one way but that there’s any way since we all fall short of God’s glory (Rom. 3:23) and we’ve earned a death sentence (Rom. 6:23). Jesus doesn’t say He is one of the ways or one of many ways but the only way (John 14:6).

I AM the Truth

Jesus never sinned, so we know that He never lied either. Jesus is God, and God cannot lie (Num. 23:19, Heb. 6:18). It’s not just hard for God to lie–it is impossible, for it goes against His very nature. But it is our nature, as Paul wrote, “Let God be true though every one were a liar” (Rom. 3:4). Since Jesus is the truth, we should walk in the truth (3 John 1:3), we should love the truth, and we should always believe the truth (2 Thess. 2:10-12). As God’s children, we’re to speak the truth “in love” (Eph. 4:32), even if it offends.

I AM the Life

John 1:4 declares, “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.” “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die” (John 11:25). When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead (John 11), He had to specifically mention Lazarus by name or else all who were in their graves would have come forth because Jesus’ words have effectual power: the power to raise life, as He did many times in His earthly ministry.

Conclusion

Jesus is the one and only way to eternal life and the one way to access the Father. This is why He says I AM the way, the truth, and the life because He is the only way, He is always truthful, and He is the only source of eternal life (John 3:16). There is no other way, regardless of what anyone says because mankind’s nature is to lie. But God never has and never will, nor indeed can He.
