3 Reasons to Cast All Anxiety on Jesus

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

– 1 Peter 5:7

Be Humble

Before we come to saving faith in Christ, we must first humble ourselves and admit we fall far short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23) and then confess our sins to God. We must put our trust in God and not in our own abilities to carry heavy loads. For all whom God has brought to repentance, these same should be humbled before Him. Otherwise, God will withhold His grace because He resists or is opposed to the proud (James 4:6). The Apostle Peter tells us what precedes the casting of our anxiety on Him:  “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you” (1 Peter 5:6). That’s where we start.

Cast It All Away

The next thing we need to do is stop trying to carry around all of our own anxieties. Sounds easy but it’s not. I know I don’t like to hand my anxieties over to Christ. But we are told to be “casting all your anxieties on him” (1 Peter 5:7a). God cannot help us until we’ve first handed it all over to Him. The bumper sticker that says, “God is my co-pilot” is wrong. Let God be your pilot, and you can let go of the steering wheel.

He Cares for You

Why should we cast every burden, weight, problem, trial, and anxiety over to God? “Because he cares for you.” If we realized just how much Christ cares, we wouldn’t hesitate to unload it all on Him. Since He cares for us, why not take it all to Him and give it up. Your friends and family care, but they can’t carry the heavy loads that Jesus can because He is God.

Conclusion

I hope you can “cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you,” and so do I. Sometimes these devotionals for others help me when I’m writing them. I am stubborn and like to be independent, but this isn’t the way God created us. He made us for fellowship, community, and a relationship. We know He cares for us because He was willing to die for us.
