5 Stories From The Bible About Advent

Here are 5 stories from the Bible About Advent

The Ancient of Days

Micah the Prophet foretold or prophesied the coming of the Messiah, even specifying where He would be born.  Micah wrote, “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days” (Micah 5:2).  That is where Jesus was born…the ancient of Days, or Jesus Christ Who was, Who is, and Who is to come (Revelation 1:8).

Stump of Jesse

Jesus Christ’s lineage was of the House of David, including Jesse, David’s father, so that is why Isaiah the Prophet prophesied that “There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.  And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him” (Isaiah 11:1-2b).  The Holy Spirit did come to “rest upon him” and was given to Jesus Christ in full measure.

A Son is Given

Again, Isaiah the Prophet tells us more about the Messiah, telling us that, “to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).  A child was born for us (Jesus) and the Son (Son of God) was given to us so that He might pay for our sins with a sinless life, death, and resurrection.

Immanuel

Never before had a woman given birth who was a virgin…that is until Jesus came to be born into the flesh to save flesh, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14).  Immanuel means “God with us” and Jesus as God was with us and is still with us today.

Word Became Flesh

As if supporting Isaiah’s prophecy about a virgin conceiving a son, and calling Him Immanuel, the Apostle John wrote that  “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son  from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).  The Word is Jesus Christ and He came to dwell among the people…and today, He dwells within each believer.

The Advent was unlike anything that had ever happened in human history.  God demanded a perfect sacrifice for our sins but God supplied what He demanded in Jesus Christ Who came to give His life as a ransom for the many who would believe in Him (Mark 10:45).  Do you believe in Him?  If so, you have received eternal life.  Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life.  Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this” (John 11:25-26)?   I pray that you do believe and are saved.
