5 Stories From The Bible About The New Jerusalem

Here are 5 great stories about the New Jerusalem.

New Jerusalem

When the Apostle John beheld the New Jerusalem descending out of heaven, he was seeing a prophetic vision, but someday the New Jerusalem really will descend out of heaven and onto the earth and be the world capital.  John wrote,“ And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband” (Revelation 21:2).  The bride of course is the Bride of Christ, the church.

River of Life

John also saw within the New Jerusalem, “the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations” (Revelation 22:1b-2).  This shows the New Jerusalem will be the center of world worship and the restoration of the nations.

No More Night

When the New Jerusalem descends out of heaven, then “night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever” (Revelation 22:5).  This doesn’t mean the sun and moon go out of existence, but their need for light will be overwhelmed by the glory of God, Who “will reign forever and ever.”

No More Death

One of the best things about the New Jerusalem is that God will be with them and we will see Him for the very first time (Revelation 21:3, 22:4).  Then, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4).  One of the best parts about heaven is the death of death, when dying will be no more.

The Holy City

John’s last vision was where he wrote that “he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God” (Revelation 21:10).   Here the New Jerusalem is called the “holy city.” It is holy because God is holy and that is where He will dwell.  The indescribable beauty included “the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.  It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates” (Revelation 21:11-12a), gates you yourself will see someday, that is if you’ve put your trust in Christ.
