Repent and Believe
When Jesus began His earthly ministry, shortly after John the Baptist’s arrest, He came, “saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15). What is the Gospel? Jesus says we must repent and believe, for even the demons believe (James 2:19) and are not saved, so belief must be accompanied by repentance, or you don’t have the full Gospel Jesus Christ brought.
Jesus Choses the Twelve
I don’t believe Jesus choose the twelve disciples without praying first, and that’s what it appears He did (Mark 3:13), so only after a time of prayer, “he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach” (Mark 3:14). Jesus was a Man of prayer and prayed…He prayed before choosing the twelve, leaving us a great example that we should pray before making any major decision.
The Sower
The Parable of the Sower tells us that the seed is the Word of God; the field is the world, but some of the seeds are snatch away by Satan (Mark 4:19), some withered away by the persecution and trials that came (Mark 4:17), while others had the seed of God’s Word choked out by the cares of the world (Mark 4:19). Lastly, the seeds “that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold” (Mark 4:20).
A Ransom for Many
Jesus came into the world to die for the world; at least those who would believe. He says that “even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). Jesus could not be any clearer…He came to give His life as a ransom those whom God had chosen and who believe in the Lord, Jesus Christ, therefore, the wrath of God we rightly deserved was placed upon Him.
The Lord’s Supper
When Jesus had the last supper with the disciples, He instituted a new ordinance where we are commanded to take the bread as being symbolic of His broken body (Mark 14:22), then He took the cup and said, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many” (Mark 14:23). Today, Communion or the Lord’s Supper is customarily observed in churches, and by partaking of the wine and bread, we proclaim the Lord’s coming. The Apostle Paul said, “For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26).
