5 Stories From The Bible To Read When You’re Desperate

Here are 5 stories from the Bible you can read when you’re feeling desperate.

Killing the Anxiety

One way to slay the dragon of fear is with faith or trust and we can trust that God will work everything out for our best.  We have His promise of that (Romans 8:28), so “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6).  When you pray about everything, you’re not anxious about everything, and this brings the peace of God which can guard our hearts (Philippians 4:7).

Ask for Wisdom

When you’re in a desperate situation, the only thing you can do is to pray about it, and then pray for the wisdom about how to handle the situation.  James says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him” (James 1:5).  Why wouldn’t God answer that prayer?  Ask for His wisdom, but keep in mind, He may use someone else as a means of passing on His wisdom, only doing it through them.

No More Fear

Thankfully, Christians no longer have to fear God’s wrath…the wrath that was previously being stored up against us, was satisfied by Jesus on the cross and we are now freed to fear no more about the wrath of God.  The Apostle John wrote that “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love” (1 John 4:18).  God loved you enough to have Jesus die for you, so why would you fear God’s wrath now?

Glorifying God

Did you know that when we’re in real trouble and we cry out to God for a miracle, and then He answers that prayer, God is glorified?  That’s why we pray in Jesus’ name, so that His name may receive glory.  God has told us to “call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me” (Psalm 50:15).  He receives glory by answered prayer.

Times of Trouble

When your day of trouble comes, and it surely will come, then God says, call out to Him, for He says, “I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him” (Psalm 91:15).  What a privilege to come to God in prayer, seeking His help, and especially in times when only God can help us.  Our friends may help us out of some trouble, but when trouble comes where no one can help, that’s the time to cry out to God and He will rescue you in your time of trouble.
