5 Stories From The Bible To Read When Facing Change

Here are 5 stories from the Bible to read when you’re facing change.

Anxious about Nothing

It’s so easy to be anxious about everything in life…especially those things we have no control over, but we’re admonished to “not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7). Once you’ve made it “known to God,” you work is finished.

Give it to God

Jesus tells everyone who has a burden or are heavy laden to come to Him and they’ll get rest (Matthew 11:28-30), but that begins by “Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).  The word casting means to throw at a distance, so we through all our anxieties about our uncertain future way over to Him, and we do this “because he cares for you” more than anyone else does.  He’s got big hands for a big load, so cast every anxiety over to Him.

A Future and Hope

Even though Jeremiah was writing to the tribe of Judah who were being held in captivity, he wanted them to have hope for a future.  He wanted them to know that God is not finished with them yet, and wrote, “I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).  If there was a future, that’s the first bit of good news they needed to hear.  That means God will bring them back to the land someday, and He did.

Trust in God

It’s hard to trust an uncertain future when change comes into our lives, but this is the very best time to trust God.  Only He can see the future and what’s around the blind corner of time.  He knows things that are coming that we don’t see yet, so we must learn to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

He Sustains You

Back to the idea of casting something away, we are admonished to “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved” (Psalm 55:22).  When God says He will sustain you, He will.  It doesn’t depend upon circumstances.  He is God. He does what He pleases and is pleased to sustain you through uncertain times.  When you’re facing change like with a new job, a new house, a new car, or a new relationship, know this; God does not change (Malachi 3:6-8), even though we do.
