5 Stories From The Bible About Being Falsely Accused

Here are 5 short stories from the Bible about being falsely accused.

The Spirit Speaks

There are many times in life when we’re falsely accused of something…something that we know we didn’t do…so when you’re falsely accused, let the Spirit speak through you and for you, for “it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you” (Matthew 10:20). Many times I’ve said things and thought, “Where did that come from?”  The only answer must have been the Spirit speaking through me.

Passing Judgment

Have you ever been accused of not eating the right foods or worshiping God on the wrong day?  Sadly, this happens far too often, but the Apostle Paul reminds us to “let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath” (Colossians 2:16).  We are no longer under the law, so don’t let anyone falsely accuse you of breaking God’s laws when it comes to foods or keeping the Sabbath on the proper day.

Blessed by Persecution

Most people try to avoid persecution, but that’s too bad because we are actually blessed when we’re persecuted and when bad things are said about us.  Jesus said, Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account” (Matthew 5:11).  When evil things are said about you, or you are falsely accused, accept this as a blessing instead of retaliating.

Praying in the Spirit

It is far too easy to hurt others when we say things that are not true and when others gossip about us.  Those things can really hurt us, so the Proverb is true: “With his mouth the godless man would destroy his neighbor, but by knowledge the righteous are delivered” (Proverbs 11:9).  If we have anything to say at all, let it be things that build up and encourage…otherwise, we stand the risk of destroying our neighbor.

Praying in Secret

King David had a lot of enemies early in his kingship.  Things were said about him that were simply not true, so David wrote that the “wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me, speaking against me with lying tongues” (Psalm 109:2).  God will repay people who falsely accuse us.  We may not be able to make it right in this life, but God will judge them as vengeance is God’s…not ours.
