5 Amazing Miracles

“Nothing lies beyond the reach of prayer except that which lies outside the will of God.”

– Phillips Brooks

The Creation Occurred

Think about the creation event! It says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen 1:1). It probably took less than a second in our time, but of course, God is not limited by time and space like we are. Imagine; God created out of nothing, all that exists, and of course that includes you and me. What a miracle! God spoke and the worlds existed…or He spoke them into existence.

The Giant did Fall

By any measure, Goliath was a giant of a man, and here comes a little shepherd boy, and a teenage at that, to take him on, however if God is on your side, one plus God equals a majority. David got it right when he said, “I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand” (1st Sam 17:45-46). That’s why David depended on God and God sovereignly allowed the stone to fall exactly where it needed to fall (1st Sam 17:49).

The Few took the Many

If God had not gone with Gideon and his 300 men to face the thousands of Midianites, they would have had no chance. The enemy “lay along the valley like locusts in abundance, and their camels were without number, as the sand that is on the seashore in abundance” (Judges 7:12), but Gideon only had 300 men. What was the miracle! They knew that “God has given into his hand Midian and all the camp” and that’s exactly what happened (Judges 7:14).

The Sun Stood Still

When Joshua was leading the army of Israel against an alliance of Adoni-zedek, king of Jerusalem, God gave the enemies into Joshua’s hands, however, many of them were about to get away, so Joshua prayed and a great miracle occurred (Joshua 10:12). Miraculously, “the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies” (Joshua 10:13). God saw to it that nothing stood in the way of His victory over Israel’s enemy, even if it meant stopping the earth’s rotation for a short period of time.

The Dead Were Raised

One of the greatest miracles in the Bible was raising the dead to life. This happened a few times in the Old Testament, but there were only a couple of occasions, however when the Son of God began His earthly ministry, He raised many from the dead. This was a sign of the Messiahship of Jesus Christ and yet the religious leaders refused to acknowledge it. What greater miracle was there, and yet they were so blind they could not see it.

Conclusion

I believe the greatest miracle of all was our new birth from above (John 3:3-7). To take people who were deader than Lazarus after four days (Eph 2:1-2), and grant them eternal life by trusting in Jesus Christ, is one of the greatest miracles of all. So was the Son of God coming to be born of a virgin and being born in the flesh, and still never ceasing to be God. I can’t imagine anything greater.
