4 Reasons The Bible Is God Speaking To You

“The Holy Scriptures are our letters from home.”

– Augustine

God Speaks

When people say, “I heard God speak to me and He told me to….” and just fill in the blank. One man even told me that God said I would be a prophet someday, and my answer was, “God spoke to me too and He is still speaking to me” so the man said, “Really!? What did He say?” I said, “He began speaking to me in Genesis 1:2 and finished in Revelation 22:21.” In other words, I don’t need to hear from others about what God says to me…God speaks to me most clearly and directly in His Word. Why would I need a man to tell me more? There is no P.S. to the Holy Scriptures.

Correction and Rebuke

Jesus spoke some very hard words but it was meant to soften hearts, so God’s Word tells me that I need to live a life pleasing to God and when I sin, I am corrected and rebuked by His Word and by His Spirit, and the Spirit and the Word always agree with one another, and it should because the Spirit of God authored the Word of God for the children of God.

Mail from Heaven

If you got a letter from a boyfriend or a girlfriend, you’d probably open the letter right away, so it’s puzzling to me that God sent a letter to us, in fact a whole host of letters in the Bible, and yet many have Bibles that simply sit on the shelf collecting dust, but that is like telling God, “Yes God I love you but I don’t have time for you to talk to me today…I’m really busy.” What a shame.

The Son’s Word

The Author of Hebrews writes, “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world” (Heb 1:1-2), so since God has already spoken (past tense) through His Son Jesus Christ, why would we need anyone else to add to God’s Word for us. We have all we need in the Word of God and to add to or take away from it is only asking for God’s curse to be upon them (Deut 4:20; Rev 22:18-19).

Conclusion

When someone tells you that they have a word from God, tell them you have a more complete word of God and it’s found in the Holy Scriptures. Why would I listen to a man or woman tell me what God said when the Bible is the clearest word God has for us. I need no other…it is enough…in fact, it is more than enough.
