3 Reasons To Live For Purpose

“The greatest tragedy is not death, but life without purpose.”

– Rick Warren

Discovering your Purpose

Have you ever wondered why God created you? Certainly God had a specific reason to create you and me because God does nothing without purpose; therefore you were created for a purpose. Part of that purpose is that we glorify God Who is worthy of all honor, praise, and glory. God declares, “I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols” (Isaiah 42:6), so never let us take credit for doing anything good because it is God Who is working in us and making possible any good we do.

Living out your Purpose

To know our purpose means we must now live out our purpose for which we were created and we don’t have to look very far to find out what that purpose is. Jesu’s imperative command was for us to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matt 28:19-20). We are to reach the lost and make disciples of them. God will use us as a means to save some, but then we go from there and make disciples after Jesus’ own heart. That’s one of the purposes for which God created us.

Glorifying God on Purpose

Since we know we’ve been created for a purpose and that’s to glorify God and bring others to Christ, we know can live with the express desire to give God the glory for everything we do. I do a lot of writing and I get some negative comments but then I get some positive ones. When someone compliments me, I tell them that it’s God Who deserves all glory, for I couldn’t do anything without Christ (John 15:5), so all glory goes to God and that’s just right where it belongs.

Conclusion

A life that is not lived for the glory of God and for no purpose is a life that’s been wasted and is worse than death. Even the creation serves God’s purpose, so let us strive to glorify God, to live out that purpose, and then to give Him all glory when someone tries to say something good about us, because grace flows downhill.
