A Love Letter
God only wrote one book and it’s called the Bible, but this is not just a book…it is “the Book!” It is a love letter sent directly to you, so if you had a spouse or boyfriend or girlfriend who wrote you, wouldn’t you be eager to open it up and read it? If not, you are telling God, “I’ve got more important things to do…”
Written to You
If you read the Bible and put your name as the one it is being written to, it can change the way you read it. For example, personalize some scriptures like John 3:16 which can say, “For God so love (insert your name here) that He gave His only Son, that whomever believes in Him, shall not perish but have eternal life.” When you read the word “you” in Scripture, put your name there, because the Bible was written to you…and to me, and to as many as our God has called.
From God’s Mouth
We don’t have to guess as to whether the Bible is the Word of God or not. The Apostle Paul writes that “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2nd Tim 3:16). That settles it. God speaks to us through His Word and it’s given to us so that we might know God and be saved. What a great privilege.
Conclusion
Since God wrote to us in His Word, why do most Christians only spend about 15 minutes a week in it? The average home has about 3 Bibles, but fewer than 1 in 10 Christians spend more than 30 minutes a week in it…and that’s tragic, because God’s only written one letter to us and it’s in His Word, the Bible.
