His Thoughts and Our Thoughts
All too often, people will say, “I think God believes this” or “God does or doesn’t do this,” but who can truly know the mind of God? We can know the mind of God to a limited degree because of his Spirit, but Isaiah reminds us that “my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord” (Isaiah 55:8).
Showing His Ways
I love Moses speaking with God as he asks Him, “Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight. Consider too that this nation is your people” (Ex 33:14). I love that. It’s like a prayer request in asking God to reveal more of His ways, and He will if we ask.
The Need to Acknowledge God
If we have any good thing that happens in our life, it is all because of God (1st Cor 4:7), so we must give Him all the glory and none to us (Psalm 115:1). With that thought in mind, read Solomon’s wise words, “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (Prov 3:6). When we are walking life’s path, if we acknowledge the One Who made the path, the path will be straighter.
Our Ways Are Before Him
God must overlook a lot of our shortcomings because He knows we’re only dust (Psalm 103:14), and he knows us better that we know ourselves, saying through Solomon that “a man’s ways are before the eyes of the Lord, and he ponders all his paths” (Prov 5:21). All the more reason to “not your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her paths” (Prov 7:25).
Conclusion
God is able to do so much more than we can even imagine. We have no clue what God is doing behind the veil, unseen by human eyes, but God thoughts are higher than our thoughts; his ways are beyond our ways; so acknowledge the Lord and do not turn from the path that God has provided.
