He’s Defeated
Christians are not fighting the demons for victory, but from victory. It’s as if Satan’s been declawed and defanged. He is able to harass us and bring spiritual attacks at us, but he’s actually been defeated. Prior to going to the cross, Jesus said, “Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out” (John 12:31). Twice Jesus says “now” as if it’s already been done, and it was by Jesus’ death on the cross and His victory over death by the resurrection .
He’s Hopeless
If Satan knows the Scriptures well, and we know he does (probably better than we do), then what does he do with Revelation 20:10 which says, “the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” If Satan reminds you of your past, remind him of his future (Rev 20:10). He can’t handle the truth!
He’s Less Than
The Apostle John understood that Satan is no match for God. Satan is a created being; God is Creator. That’s why John wrote, “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1st John 4:4). The one “who is in the world,” is “the ruler of this world” (John 12:31), Satan, but he cannot be greater than the One Who lives in us, which is God’s Spirit. The Holy Spirit is greater than Satan. Remind him of that.
He’s Judged
Satan has already had his judgment and only the verdict is yet to be carried out (Rev 20:10), as Jesu said “the ruler of this world has been judged” (John 16:11), and has no claim on Jesus nor on us (John 14:30), because “the One who was born of God protects him, and the evil one cannot touch him” (1st John 5:18b).
Conclusion
We can laugh in Satan’s face because He’s a defeated foe, he’s already judged, he’s already condemned, and he’s awaiting his sure and certain sentencing. It’s as if he’s on death row right now, although it’s a life sentence in the lake of fire, and he cannot appeal his judgment. He doom is certain. One little word from Jesus Christ and His judgment will be carried out.
