Devotional: 6 Ways God Can Turn Your Tears into Laughter

What Hyles is saying is that we should look at the world with a long view in mind. We can’t just look at our lives based on what’s in front of us and based on the here and now. We should understand that whatever trials we go through leads to a good place in the future.

This is possible because God turns our tears into laughter. This doesn’t happen overnight, and it requires trust and faith in him. Here are six ways God can turn your tears into laughter.

He gives you the gift of acceptance

If you’re going through really tough times right now, there’re really only two choices: You can choose to resist it and put up a fight or you can choose to accept. When you accept, you are able to let go and position yourself so you can move on or you can build on your challenges and come out a better person.

God gives you this gift freely. The only question is whether you will accept that gift.

He gives you the blessing of patience

It’s very tempting for human beings to wish all challenges to disappear immediately, but that’s not the way life works. In many cases, what challenges us can change us for the better. However, for this to work out, we need to have patience. It’s not going to happen overnight. God, if we ask him, can give us that blessing.

Learning to trust in God more

It’s easy to tell people I have faith and engage in some visual demonstrations of faith by going to church regularly, by carrying your Bible, by memorizing certain verse, and doing all sorts of practices. But the reality is that faith is like a muscle. True faith only grows if it is challenged. Just like a muscle, it only grows when you put pressure on it and you strain it.

When we are faced with challenges that can bring us into tears, we are given the golden opportunity to learn to trust in God more.

The opportunity to see the big picture

When something bad happens to you, it can be easy to just look at the trial or defeat and not see past it. It’s easy to just get lost in the pain, frustration, anger, and sadness. But if you look at the big picture, you gain perspective, and more importantly, you begin to mature.

When you’re faced with challenges that have reduced you to tears, you always have that opportunity from God to see the big picture. The choice is yours whether to take that opportunity or not.

Seeing with God’s eyes of faith

The interesting thing about faith is that if you truly have it, you would be able to see things that don’t currently exist. It’s the same way that an architect can see a beautiful building when all other people can see a dirt lot. If you claim God’s eyes of faith, then you can see what God has in store for you.

Let me make something clear. The Bible reveals God’s plan for you. God’s plan for you is to prosper you and never to harm you. Jesus’ plan for you involves mansions in heaven. That’s God’s plan, and to be able to see that, you have to see it through God’s eyes of faith. In other words, you have to claim the Word and believe the Word and see the world through the Word.

Gaining assurance by keeping the end in mind

What is the end God has in store for you? Ultimately, it all boils down to salvation. That is the ultimate plan God has for everybody: to be reunited with him. That’s how much he loves us.

You can gain assurance and confidence from this. Regardless of whatever trials you go through, God has your salvation in mind. Claim that promise and live your life with that promise in your heart, and God can turn your tears into laughter and joy later on.
