4 Reasons God’s Not Limited By Circumstances

“No circumstance is so big that He cannot control it.”

– Jerry Bridges

God is Sovereign

God is sovereign over all things that happen and those things yet to happen, and since God is also omniscient (all-knowing), He isn’t ever concerned about things that happen in our life or things that will happen. That’s because He already knows what’s around the corner of time because He’s been there and back. God is not restricted to time and places like we are, so God is never controlled by circumstances…He is sovereign over them.

God is Omnipotent

God is all-powerful so there is not one thing in this universe that He cannot handle. He doesn’t move His will according to circumstances; rather, circumstances are moved by Him so that His will is always done and so “we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (Rom 8:28). This is true, whether we believe it or not.

God is Never Surprised

Has it ever occurred to you that nothing has ever occurred to God? In other words, God is never caught off guard and nothing has ever dawned on God. He knows what will happen before it does and so the only ones surprised are us. God never learns anything new so there is no way He is caught off guard like we are.

God is Not Limited

Isaiah the Prophet asks, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable” (Isaiah 40:28) and since “He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names” (Psalm 147:4), what makes us think He’ll ever forget the circumstances we’re in?

Conclusion

Jerry Bridges knows enough of the Bible to say that no circumstance is so big that He cannot handle it since He is sovereign over all that happens; He is omnipotent, so nothing’s too hard for Him; God is never surprised by circumstances and He is certainly not limited to what He can do.
