“Time is the brush of God, as he paints his masterpiece on the heart of humanity.”

– Ravi Zacharias

The Master

There are so many great artists of the past that it’s difficult to pick out the greatest of them all. But truly the greatest Master Artist is not even human because the Master Artist is God, Who is using the paintbrush of time to work in those who have trusted in His Son, Jesus Christ. Every stroke is time well spent for God and for those of us who can fully trust the Master Artist with every stroke of His brush.

The Masterpiece

God is both working in you and through you. That’s what the Apostle Paul wrote: “It is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). We know that “there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone” (1 Corinthians 12:6) and that everything that happens to us is according to His good pleasure (Romans 8:28). I trust the Master Artist.

The Heart

Ezekiel the prophet once foretold of Israel, “I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 36:26). Jeremiah the prophet also wrote, “I will give them a heart to know that I am the LORD, and they shall be my people and I will be their God, for they shall return to me with their whole heart” (Jeremiah 24:7). Even though these were written to Israel, we all still need a new heart. Ours was wicked and deceitful (Jeremiah 17:9), but we who have been born again are now new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). We have a new heart with new desires that are bent toward pleasing God and not pleasing ourselves.

Conclusion

The Master Artist is using each day of our lives to remake our image into that of His Son. He is painting a masterpiece, which includes a new heart and new desires to obey God and to live a life that is pleasing to Him. We no longer live to please ourselves because the old man and woman have passed away. The new is here, and we have been changed for the better and by the Master Artist.
