There are two different Lazarus’ mentioned in the Bible. In the Book of Luke, Lazarus was very poor and definitely a beggar. It’s a story about Jesus’ teachings on the reality of heaven and hell. Then, in the Book of John, there is the story of another Lazarus, Lazarus of Bethany. He was the brother of Mary and Martha. In this story, Lazarus’ sickness, death, and resurrection worked toward giving glory to God and increasing the faith of Jesus’ followers. Both Lazarus’ in the Bible have a strong purpose and tell an important story.
