3 Reasons We Can’t Please God Without Faith

“Without faith it is impossible to please God.”

– Hebrews 11:6

We Don’t Trust God

The author of Hebrews tells us that “without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him” (Heb 11:6) so if you aren’t 100% certain that God exists then you can’t have total trust in Him. If we don’t believe that He rewards those who seek Him we won’t live a life of diligently trying to seek Him and believe Him just as “Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going” (Heb 11:8).

We Don’t Know God

The more I read the Word of God, the more I know of God and to know more about God is to trust Him all the more. If you read all of the accounts where God remains faithful to His Word and promises, the more you can see why you can trust Him. If we don’t trust Him then apparently we don’t know Him well enough to have faith in Him. The remedy of a weak faith is a strong knowledge of God and the knowledge of God is found in the Scriptures.

We Don’t Believe God

It’s hard to believe in a God that we cannot see with our eyes but Jesus told Thomas, who doubted Jesus’ resurrection until he saw him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29). If we see God then how can that be called faith? It is true that seeing is believing but believing without seeing is genuine faith. If we believe God, we won’t believe what we see with our eyes but believe even despite what we see with our eyes because it’s not just hard to please God without faith; it’s impossible.

Conclusion

It is impossible to please God without having faith in Him and knowing that He exists and will reward those who seek Him. I know I have disappointed God numerous times because I was seeing with the eyes of flesh and doubting God’s promises but to believe Him despite not seeing Him is pleasing to God. If we don’t believe God we are telling Him, “I don’t trust You” because I apparently “don’t know You,” and “I don’t believe You God.” Great God, please forgive my lack of faith and help me to trust in You no matter what my eyes tell me.
