3 Reasons Jesus Is the Only Way

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'”

– John 14:6

The Way

It is very politically incorrect today to say that there is only one way to heaven, but this is not my own thought. It is Jesus’ very own words that He is the one and only way to the Father (John 14:6), and none can go to Him except through Jesus Christ, which means we must trust in Him. In this “many paths to God” philosophy today, many are astonished that Christians claim that Jesus is the only way. What is most surprising is not that there is only one way but that there is even any way at all since we are all such sinners (Rom. 3:10-12; 1 John 1:8, 10) and fall so far short of God’s glory (Rom. 3:23), so I am glad that at least there is one way! Thank you, Jesus.

The Truth

One man once told me that there is no absolute truth, but then I asked him, “Didn’t you just refute that notion by telling me an absolute truth, that there is no absolute truth?” You cannot say that there is no absolute truth, absolutely. That’s insanity. Jesus is the truth, for He always spoke the truth. I am glad that there is objective truth and that human truth is not what we depend on, which is subjective truth and, therefore, subject to error. Even Jesus’ enemies, the Pharisees and Herodians, acknowledged that by saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances” (Matt. 22:16).

The Life

After Jesus offended many with His hard sayings, they stopped following Him, and Jesus looked at His disciples and asked, “’You do not want to leave too, do you,” to which Peter replied, “’Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God” (John 6:67-69). Indeed, Jesus is the only way to eternal life, as He Himself said, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them” (John 3:36).

Conclusion

Jesus is not one of many ways, not “a” way but the only way to the Father, and unless you believe this, you cannot claim to know God and His Son, Jesus Christ. He alone is the one way, the one truth, and the one life. There is no other way possible to the Father and into the kingdom than through Jesus Christ, period!
