3 Ways God Works Supernaturally

“Miracles are not contrary to nature, but only contrary to what we know about nature.”

– Augustine

The Supernatural God

When people question God because of the miracles mentioned in the Bible, it doesn’t bother me. For one thing, life itself is a miracle. I can’t remember which scientist said it, but he said that conception and then the development of life in the womb of the mother is such an amazing thing that it is a miracle in itself and goes against all of the natural laws of the universe. He is right, of course, so when we look at miracles as being contrary to the natural laws, then it is likely our lack of understanding of Who God is and how He rules the universe, even to the minutest atom. There is not one subatomic particle that operates contrary to and in opposition to the sovereignty of God. There are no radical molecules in the universe, there is no rebel matter, and there is nothing that happens outside of the will of God. Whatever happens, whether it appears supernatural or not, it is no big thing to God, Who is above all His creation and does what He pleases. He stands above and reigns supreme over all things that are created.

The Miracle of Salvation

I believe that one of the greatest of all miracles is that of salvation because before we were saved, we were blinded by Satan (2 Cor 4:4), blinder than any man or woman has ever been. Before God saved us, we were the children of the Devil (1 John 3:10; John 8:44). Before we repented and trusted in Christ, we were deader than dead and more dead than Lazarus, who was four days dead in the grave (Eph 2:1; Col 2:13). We were all born into Adam and destined for death, but in Christ we were made alive (2 Cor 15:22). We were groping around in the darkness, but now we are the children of light (1 John 2:9; Eph 5:8). God appointed Paul to the Gentiles to “open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me’” (Acts 26:18). My point is that the Spirit of God has to penetrate the darkness, pierce the resistance of Satan and his minions, quicken our mortal body, bring us eternal life, and adopt us from the children of the Devil to the children of God. What greater human miracle is there?

The Authority of the Word

If we believe God and His Word, we must necessarily believe in miracles. I have heard so many amazing testimonies of God working with Muslims, giving them dreams about Jesus. I have heard of many miraculous healings that could only be the result of a supernatural working God, Who astounded even the physicians. I myself have escaped death more than once when the EMS workers said I should have died from a car accident. I know the Bible is true, and the Bible describes God commanding nature to do things that are contrary to human reasoning, but God is God. He does what He wills and cares not whether His works are believed or not. If our authority is the Word of God and the Bible says that God can do all things and they are always for His glory, I believe it.

Conclusion

God is still doing miracles today, but the greatest miracles today are being done in the human heart, where He takes the stony human heart and softens it by His Word and saves those who would otherwise perish without Christ. So to Him goes all the glory, and why not? He is God!
