A.B. Simpson Quote – Jesus makes all our burdens lighter

“If we walk in righteousness He will carry us through.”

– A.B. Simpson

A.B. Simpson Quote Commentary – Jesus Will Cary Us Through

If you were to look at the Bible as a mere set of commands and laws consisting of ‘thou shalts’ and ‘thou shalt nots,’ you’re playing a losing game. As the prophet Jeremiah has written, there is no decency in human beings. Our hearts are deceitful and we are totally depraved. Isaiah goes one even further and flatly states that our righteousness are like filthy rags. The plain truth is that if we were to try to walk the Christian walk and follow Christ’s commands on our own strength, most of us will probably stumble right out of the gate.

Those who manage a few steps stumble, since relying on human righteousness is an exercise in futility. It is like trying to keep a car running on vapors. It is not sustainable. This is why trying to resist temptations is so difficult. Ranging from the guy who cut you off on the highway to your co-workers gossiping about you and all points in between, it is too easy to give in to our all-so-human natures. It is no wonder that many people feel worn out, anxious, guilty, and regretful, among a full banquet of negative emotions. Thankfully, it doesn’t have to be this way. We don’t have to live care-filled lives burdened by the negative waves of emotions our daily burdens bring. Thankfully, there is an easier way to live life.

Trust Jesus to carry your burdens for you

As A. B. Simpson said, when we walk in righteousness, Jesus will carry us through. Take note that this righteousness is not our own because we have none. But when we walk in Christ’s righteousness-when we abide in him-he carries our burdens. He gives us the strength and comfort of the Holy Spirit to see our world differently. Things that used to bug us to no end simply slip off us like water off a duck’s back. Things that used to make us sad fade into perspective and actually become part of our personal strength. When Jesus said that we should follow him because he is meek and lowly and his yoke is light, he didn’t mean that the yoke didn’t have any weight. You don’t have to be a traditional farmer to realize that a yoke is heavy. It is only light because Jesus, when we abide in him, he carries the yoke of the world for us. Are you ready to rest on the strength of Jesus today?
