3 Duties of a Christian

“The one who says it can’t be done is generally interrupted by someone doing it.”

– Harry Emerson Fosdick

Witnessing

There is no plan B for God to save others than using Jesus’ own disciples, and that includes us if we’ve trusted in Christ. We are to go into all the world to make disciples of all people. Even though you can’t go “into all the world” (Matthew 28:19-20), you can go next door or to your aunt, your cousin, your co-worker, or your friend. Even atheists should hear the Gospel because it’s not up to us to save anyone. Although God may use us as a means to save some, salvation is fully a work of God; but He is pleased to use us in the proclamation of it.

Being the Body

The Body of Christ is the church, and the church has many members. We all move together in unison but only at the direction of the Head of the Church, and that is Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:18). Since Jesus is the Head, He expects His body (us) to cooperate. That includes ministering to the poor and those in prison, in the hospital (Matthew 25:35-40), and even in nursing homes (James 1:27). That is our duty as children of God and subjects of the King.

Glorifying God

We were made to glorify God in our lives, including in our bodies, as the Apostle Paul wrote, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Since the creation proclaims God’s glory (Psalm 19:1-2), so should we because we’re part of His creation.

Conclusion

Don’t you think we can glorify God by witnessing for Him, being the Body of Christ, doing what He tells us and in the way that we live? I think we can glorify God in all we do, say, and think. That’s a great goal today. Ask God for the help you need in glorifying Him. He would love to answer that prayer.
