3 Things About Being At Peace With God

“Peace comes when there is no cloud between us and God.”

– Charles H. Brent

Removing the Separation from God

Before we were saved, we were separated from a holy God. Isaiah the Prophet wrote that “the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear” (Isaiah 59:1), however my and “your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear” (Isaiah 59:2) so we’ve got a problem, but thankfully, there is a solution.

Being at Peace with God

For all whom God has brought to repentance and faith in Christ, we can say with the Apostle Paul that “since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom 5:1) so “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Rom 8:1). The truth is that we cannot have the peace of God until we’re first at peace with God and Jesus brought us peace with God and gives us the peace of God.

Having the Peace of God

We want to have God’s peace because “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:7) but if you’re not sure how to get that peace, listen to Jesus Who said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27). The point is that peace is not what we work for…it is what God gives us through Jesus Christ and that peace should calm every fear we have.

Conclusion

Mr. Brent, in saying that “Peace comes when there is no cloud between us and God” must have understood that we had to be at peace with God before we could receive the peace of God from Jesus and that this peace of God ought to calm our fears and give us peace of mind because we’re now at peace with God.
